Passos, Livia
Dr. Livia Passos obtained her PhD in Sciences in the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil in 2017. During her academic career she investigated immmunoregulatory mechanisms in infectious and parasitic diseases. After her PhD, Dr. Passos joined the group of Dr. Elena Aikawa in November 2017 to study cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD), a major proportion of all cardiovascular disease in children and young adults in low and middle income countries. She focuses on understanding the process of lesion development leading to mitral valve dysfunction in RHD.
